Private Express Mail Booklets

Private Express Mail locals are contained in bi-fold booklets containing one or two panes of locals.
The booklet outer covers have background information printed on them pertaining to the event
featured on the locals.

PEM-1-NLP booklet contains one horizontal pane of ten 5 cent locals that have been surcharged in
the amount of $3.00 as the private carriage fee. The pane is a reprinted A-06-NLP local that has the
top row of five featuring the Apollo spacecraft and the bottom row of five featuring the Lunar Module.
The pane does not have any inscriptions printed on it.

PEM-2-NLP booklet contains one vertical pane of eight $3.00 locals. The booklet has a major error
due to the fact that the names of Cooper and Schirra were reversed. The pane has an inscription at the
top of the pane.

PEM-3-NLP booklet is a reprint of PEM-2-NLP correcting the name error for Cooper and Schirra.

PEM-4-NLP and PEM-5-NLP booklets contain two vertical panes of eight $3.00 locals. The panes
have an inscription at the top of the pane.

PEM-6-NLP, PEM-7-NLP and PEM-8-NLP booklets contain one horizontal pane of six $3.00
locals. The panes have inscriptions at the top and bottom of the pane.

Space Services Inc. of America (SSIA) of Houston, Texas, conducted an engine test firing
of the Percheron from Matagorda Island on August 5, 1981, but the rocket exploded
on the pad due to a malfunction.
